Have you struggled to get unbiased makeup advice, not attached to a particular brand? Wish someone would just tell you how to refresh your makeup routine without high-pressure selling you products?
Before I became in-demand for weddings, before my makeup team and subsequent makeup school, I started this business primarily to give women the 'smarts' to use cosmetics with confidence! I knew there were few or zero places to get honest makeup advice, not attached to product sales. Giving women 'a beautiful education' through hands-on makeup lessons has been my focus since 2008.Since then, I've worked with hundreds of women in salons, homes and offices around the Bay of Plenty - women of all ages, ethnicities, styles and levels of makeup confidence. Many have loved and bought the products they've used in their lesson, others have found their own solutions. Either way, it's a beautiful education!
Here's what some of them have said after a full makeup consultation, mini makeup lesson, small group workshop or product recommendation.
At the age of 34 I found myself in a position where I needed to look more professional, with no previous experience of having to do my make up on a daily basis. Lillybeth was so patient, and helpful. I found her instructions easy to follow. I was inspired to make the effort, when I had previously found the idea of it all quite daunting. I am so grateful for her help! Megan Simon, Hotel Manager (Mount Maunganui, May 2014)
I am now in my fifties and wish I had found someone like Lillybeth years ago! I have never had professional advice before on how to apply makeup. I dreaded going into a pharmacy or department store to buy makeup as I felt I that was pounced upon on my arrival and had to purchase whatever brand that particular sales person's brand was rather than look at everything that was available and find the best (unbiased opinion) product for me.
Lillybeth introduced me to a fantastic skin care range and a different makeup brand, both that I was unfamiliar with, that I love. My skin has never looked better. So I am very grateful for this.
I would certainly recommend having a session with Lillybeth to anyone that wears makeup - the younger the better - you may as well get it right from the beginning! Jude van den Broek, Mount Maunganui (Aug 2014)
Lillybeth has a top reputation and I knew that in order for me to get the best knowledge that I had to have someone of her calibre - especially as previous lessons with others hadn't taught me much. Rachel Walker, Student (Tauranga, Nov 2012)
Now I’m in my 40’s I’m having to deal with signs of aging, so wanted some professional help with how to apply makeup to cover up some of my flaws while emphasising all my good points.
Lillybeth helped me achieve this by teaching me about makeup that most compliments my colouring and skin tone and also techniques on how to apply the makeup. I also learnt about makeup and skin care products that may have harmful ingredients.
I thoroughly enjoyed my private consultation with Lillybeth, as I received information that was specific to my own needs without any other distractions. I also love the fact I can simply phone or email Lillybeth with any questions or concerns I may have. I feel I’ve received excellent information and advice from my private makeup consultation with Lillybeth and definitely recommend this service to anybody. Denise Lynch, Te Puke (July 2011)
Self-confessed “makeup-phobe”, Maria requested a private consultation after having her makeup applied by Lillybeth for business photos:
I’ve never known how to correctly apply makeup so have avoided using it as I didn’t want to look ‘overdone’. I realised that with quality makeup in the right shades, which didn’t have to cost the earth, I can achieve a really great look if it’s applied correctly.
It has boosted my confidence, both in business and socially. I’ve learned so much. Lillybeth doesn’t just keep her knowledge to herself – she genuinely wants to empower her clients with the skills of makeup application. Would I recommend her services? Absolutely. She’s the best at what she does. She really does care about helping women feel good about themselves and that comes through in her attitude & service. Maria Low, PR Business Owner, Cambridge (Aug 2010)
I was in Life Pharmacy on Saturday and the beauty counter lady was very impressed with my eye makeup. Great compliment considering how gorgeous she looked. I told her I had lessons... So take a bow. Zoe W., Tauranga (July 2009)
My name is Sharon and I am 53. I had never ever had a facial or had anyone tell me how to put on makeup without being over the top. I felt like a bit of ME time...so I found A Beautiful Education on the web...
Lillybeth was great. She was down to earth and made me feel at ease instantly as I was having a private consultation. We covered everything I needed to know in a little over 2 hours and I came away armed with new tips and tricks to make me feel like a new person. I can definitely recommend her to anyone wanting a consultation with her. Thanks Lillybeth. Sharon (age 53), Whiritoa Beach (April 2008)
Lillybeth and I have known each other for a while so we connected well over our 2-hour session. However, she definitely kept a professional level of advice, application and conversation. I had her full attention for the 2 hours which was awesome (don't you just hate paying a professional and half the time they're texting or answering other business calls??). I'll definitely use her again when I decide it's time for a change. You're awesome, Lillybeth, thank you! Trish Chapman, Admin Executive, Tauranga (April 2008)
Now that I have learnt some new tricks and techniques, when I put my makeup on, I put it on feeling confident the outcome is going to be good, and when finished, I feel much more beautiful.
I wanted to have some one on one tutoring to expand my knowledge and upskill on the little I knew already. Lillybeth made my time fun and educational. She is very encouraging, good at what she does and made me feel comfortable.
I would highly recommend Lillybeth and her ‘beautiful education’ service. Lillybeth is down to earth and it makes for a fun day, and you walk away better off with take-home notes you can refer back to, which is a bonus. Hope Gillingham, Matamata (June 2011)
Wonderful result I would say! I'm really impressed with the before and after photos. I just look so much more vibrant and animated in the after photo! It was so good how you got me to apply the makeup myself, giving me lots of direction, good hints and encouragement as you instructed me. Thank you so much. You were brilliant! Gillian Buckley (Mini Lesson, August 2012)
I had a great lesson and really enjoyed the makeup for the rest of the day! The eyes looked and felt gorgeous and I really like the feel of the powder.
I will definitely recommend a mini makeup lesson to anyone who might be interested! It made me realise that the orange/gold thing was not a good colour combo for me! Thank you for the tips - I will try to look into pinks and neutrals/browns as a different option. (Sarah)
Thank you so much for the confidence you've given me to choose makeup to buy...I'm looking forward to receiving the foundation from you so I can practice on my own with the tips and techniques you gave me this morning. (Kay)
Thank you for last Saturday. I did enjoy it and felt pretty good walking around Bayfair afterwards. I think they were all impressed at home as well. (Tina)
I like the way that Lillybeth does group teaching sessions, where she shows a small group of women how to do their makeup and then each person practices on themselves. It's much more likely that you will remember if you do your own make up. In sessions she is nearby to support you if necessary. Barbara Griffith, Pukehina (Tauranga, Nov 2012)
Chemists sell you crap:
The Mary Kay lippy is so great, great colours and stays on too. It's taken me decades to find a product like this!
I’ve spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a good lipstick but they are ALWAYS the wrong colour or don’t last. Chemists sell you crap. They sell you whatever they want you to buy or what is the best-seller for that month or season. Why would they think that these popular colours would even suit me? But both of the lipstick colours I bought [from you] are awesome and the lip liner really works. Camella A., Tauranga (June 2009)
After experiencing a professional makeover, and receiving her own own ‘beautiful education’ through a private makeup lesson, Maria used the personal shopping service with Lillybeth:
I bought many products from Lillybeth. I appreciated that she’d already used them on me so I knew exactly how they would look and what I was getting.
The product ordering system is so easy. Lillybeth is just a phone call, email, a Tweet or a Facebook question away. If there’s something I’m not sure about, she’s happy to clarify.
Maria Low, Cambridge (August 2010)
LOVE !! my heated eyelash curler, thanks xx Lisa R., Tauranga (February 2010)
Lee won a 'Makeup Bag Makeover' through a competition on facebook:
A stay-at-home mum with two young children and, at the time, heavily pregnant, I wondered how a Makeup Bag Makeover would be useful, considering I barely had time to dust on a bronzer! I pictured Lillybeth with a checklist of what products I had and what I needed, which was obvious to me and anyone else if I revealed my makeup stash.
I had a sinking feeling this was some type of marketing ploy to get me to buy her makeup, so it would be fair to say I was a little apprehensive, yet excited for my makeup drawer to receive some attention for a change.
Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I set up the consultation for Lillybeth to arrive conveniently at my home. I gingerly revealed my makeup drawer feeling a little embarrassed and nervous about the state of my makeup (or ‘makedown’ in my case) and lack of it! Lillybeth completely put me at ease. She was friendly and professional, and from the very first item plucked from the drawer began a journey of understanding all about makeup.
I learnt about products I had that were working well and why, as well as some makeup items that were not. Whether it was because I didn't need it, or the colours were not flattering, I was not only receiving makeup advice, I was also being set to save $$$ avoiding future mistakes.
I also discovered what items would be quick and easy to apply to get a better look for the day ahead. This included a discussion about why a blusher was missing from my makeup drawer. I took Lillybeth’s advice on the best blush colour to use and purchased a Mary Kay blusher - who knew a blusher would make such a difference to my complexion?! I'm a complete blusher convert!
Armed with knowledge about what colours suit me best, what products are winners and what are losers, my makeup drawer is now working the best it can be for me. I have plans to add to my makeup. With the knowledge I gained as well as the notes Lillybeth provided during the audit, I have a personal guide as to what products to go for that suit me. Thanks Lillybeth, it truly was a beautiful education! Lee Bateman, Tauranga (October 2010)
