Who Will Be My Makeup Artist?
I never say I’m booked for your makeup myself, then send someone else on the day.
Unlike some business horror stories you might have heard, if you book one of my Lillybeth team for your makeup, you know who you’re going to get on the day! It’s important to me you know what to expect from your makeup on your wedding day, and you know who will be serving you.
Why do I mention this? Because this is how a local photographer used to do business. 🙁 And I didn’t like it.
A couple of years ago in Tauranga there were many surprised and upset brides who had a different photographer turn up on their wedding day with no warning, who they’d never met and possibly not seen the work of. These couples were adamant they’d booked the owner himself as it was confirmed in their contract and through face-to-face communications. They’d tell me this after I’d warned them it might be one of his team who shows on the day, but more often than not, my fears for them were realised when a different (though smiling) face showed up at the door and the brides nerves would increase because of this unexpected change.
Some couples were happy with the photo results, while others thought they were poor quality and/or didn’t enjoy the photography sessions because of feeling deceived.
I confronted the photographer in question at a wedding networking event, but it continued to happen. As well as affecting the brides and grooms, many of us wedding professionals were stuck in the middle of this uncomfortable situation on the wedding day, forced to help the bride make the best of it and the sad task of warning those who’d excitedly tell us they’d booked his services for their upcoming wedding. Naturally, the actions of this person possibly damaged the reputation of the wedding industry in general, as well as the individual professionals who worked alongside or referred people to him.
The owner made a name for himself by disappointing brides in this way, then received multiple negative online reviews due to issues with photo quality. This photographer then changed his business name, and continues to operate in Tauranga, and the drama appears to be ongoing.
I decided to learn from his mistakes, and let this positively influence the way I deal with brides when booking myself or my team. If I’m not personally available for your makeup on your date, I’ll send you the profiles of my most suited team members who are available, for you to choose from. Even if you book two of my team, you can choose which artist does your own bridal makeup, and this is who will do your makeup trial-run also, before the day.
You always know who your makeup artist is, when you book your wedding makeup and hair through Lillybeth.
