Is Airbrush Makeup Better?

Is Airbrush Makeup Better?

I get questions from brides looking for a Bay of Plenty makeup artist all the time. Of course many of them have questions – planning a wedding can be tough and it’s a big deal. That’s why I have a FAQ’s page on my website. But not everything’s on there!

Just a couple of times I’ve been asked about airbrush makeup. Is airbrush makeup any better than brushes? Is it suitable for me? Does it last longer or look better?

Have a snoop inside my email inbox. Here’s an email conversation I had with a bride back in 2015. I met her again recently to do her makeup as a wedding guest, and that reminded me of how she first booked me initially, and what her concerns were. Have a read!

It’s so hard to chose a makeup artist/hair stylist online. I really value Su-an’s recommendations (from Old Forest School) and your communication has been so professional and helpful. I want to be honest with you, I believe I have now narrowed it down to you and one other. The other one is xxxxxxxx who does airbrushing makeup (a new concept to me). One of my girl friends told me about it and said it’s the way to go, but I’m really not sure!

Good on you for being honest!  Here’s my ’two cents’. 🙂

I’ve never used an airbrush gun, but most makeup artists I’ve spoken to agree it’s just another way of getting makeup on, not necessarily superior than brushes or sponges.  The downside with airbrush is it’s usually only best for those with great skin (I have no idea how yours is of course), as once you have a layer on, you can’t apply more to build up the coverage.  The people I’ve talked to who use it, only do so on students going to balls if they don’t have any skin issues.  This is why none of my team use airbrush, as it’s just not versatile enough for the many different people we work on.
I personally prefer not to have to lug around a compressor, change colours and clean out the little heads between each product etc. So it’s up to you, but I don’t recommend you base your decision on they way the makeup is applied, but the overall look instead in photos of their work, reviews, communication etc.

Thanks, I was hoping you’d give me your two cents worth 🙂 Very helpful actually. To be honest with you (again) I did sort of feel like the airbrush thing was a little over the top. I do have flawless skin though…NOT! hahaha. My skin is actually pretty good, but I’m not a 16 year old with porcelain skin going to a school ball, that’s for sure. I’m 28 so I’ve started getting a few fine lines, eeek and I still get the odd pimple now and again, so the option of building up more coverage sounds more suited to me.
Second, as I said I would, I had another look at both of your websites over the weekend, and WOW, your wedding makeup showcase slideshow blew me away. Every girl on there looks absolutely stunning. And after communicating with both of you, and reading a bunch of reviews, it’s a no brainer, I need you!!! So thanks for being a part of my decision making process, and pretty please can I book you in to do my wedding makeup on the xx xx? I can get the deposit paid as soon as I have your details. Yay, I’m feeling really good about this whole thing now. 🙂
Happy wedding planning! If you have some questions that aren’t answered on my FAQ’s page, use the contact form (in the top navigation) and ask away. Maybe I’ll create a blogpost about your question, and also help you answer it so you can be confident in your decision-making process.
